Welcome to the Rampant Strawberry Inn, Home of Argent Strawberry's Games of the past. Here is a place that you can find games and rules that are played in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Many are historically correct to the medieval period, a few are even older then that, occasionally there is a game played in the SCA that is not period but is close enough that it doesn't matter.

Hope you find something useful. Posts will vary as I work of what format I like my first game post will simply be my arts and science fair entry for the Game of Noddy.

Ludus duodecim scriptorum , or XII scripta, was a board game popular during the time of the Roman Empire. It was played anywhere that Rome  controlled. Most boards found are stone. It was so popular that most of the surviving game boards found around cities were professionally carved. iI seems like there were plenty of public boards, Like the chess boards in city park today. It is believed that folks carried playing pieces and dice with them.  The game pieces were called  pessoi,  the name of another game; much in the way a checker piece derives its name from the game Pessoi was also a game. Pessoi as a proper noun implies a little round pebbles or pottery sherds.  Hand stamped board on linen with Flame worked glass pessoi and Pyorgphyed Wooded Dices the I make and sell email me for prices. Daldos

 DALDOS the ship game of the Mary Rose ship wreck. There is a neglected category of board game the is neither pure war not nor pure race. It is an in-between categories. This is were the game Daldos falls. With all games from history I feel I need to point out these are oral traditions writen rules are a modern idea. The other thing is that playing more then one game on any board is also a common thing looks as a chess/checker board and you understand what this means.  This games seems to have evidice of beening  a coastal town game played till today in the northern area of Europe. (Jaeren,Thy, Mors, Fano, Bornholm) However historic boards have been found in Novgorod Russia, (15 lines) 14th century made of spruce. With the back having nine man Morris on it. Daldos What Type of game is it, How to play,  Where and when it was played,   & my theories on it.  Part of My Mary Rose Project Marilyn Strawberry Holt  known in the SCA as THL Mwynwen Ysginidd   Denmark and Norway share a game called Daldos or Daldosa and have relative variations played as far north as Lappland.  This game has evidence of being a coastal town game played today in the northern area of Europe. (Jaeren,Thy, Mors, Fano, Bornholm) This is a racing game that has direct capture, it is played with a pair of 4-sided dice. It could also be called a running fight game. somewhere between a racing game and a capture game. For years this style of game was only believed to have been played in the Arab-Muslim world.
